Scott and I decided to go for a walk with our boys this evening. We are on Spring Break and are enjoying spending time together as a family of four and the setting sun was so beautiful we just had to get outside. As we walked down Lawrence Street we saw some kids playing in the woods on the edge of a flooded river. We made a comment to each other, wondering who allows their young children to play by themselves in such a dangerous environment and as we looked closer we could see that they were stuck and calling for help. One of the children had slipped and her leg got stuck in the icy water under the snow. We heard the kids crying and screaming for help and when we tried to call down to them, they couldn't hear us. Scott immediately turned around and ran back up the road, down the hill into the baseball field and tromped through the icy snow as he rushed to help the little girl. I stood on the road with our boys and watched as Scott struggled through the deep snow, hoping that he wouldn't get hurt as well. As he struggled to reach the little girl I saw two girls walk down the street from the center of town and when they saw what was going on they started running towards the kids as well. Scott pulled the little girl out and helped the other kids up the bank and onto even ground. His jeans were soaking wet up to his knees and his hands were bright red and bleeding from catching himself on the icy snow. It was a very scary moment for all of us, and I'm just so proud of how quickly Scott reacted to help this child. He's my hero! I love you, hubby!
Here are a couple pictures, but you can't really tell what's going on...
Here are a few more pictures from our walk. We went down to the meadow behind our new house and it was COMPLETELY flooded! Beautiful though!
Here is a comparison of what it looks like in the summer to now...
This is from down in the meadow looking up to our new house. You can barely see a little green peeking through the trees if you look very closely!
It felt like winter today, but here is a sure sign that spring is on it's way! :)
