Yesterday my parents celebrated 35 years of marriage! Wow! I am so lucky to have parents that are committed to one another, love one another, honor one another, encourage one another and cherish one another even after 35 years! It's pretty amazing. I can't even express how incredible it was to grow up in a house where I didn't have to worry if my parents were going to get divorced. Sure, they disagreed on things and had moments of anger and frustration, as any couple does, but I knew that they were in it for the long haul and that nothing was going to change that for them. Not having the weight of that fear hovering over me allowed me to enjoy my childhood and provided me an incredible example for my marriage today. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for loving each other so well. I love you both!
Here is what I shared on Facebook yesterday. I think it's pretty great!
"Happy
35th Anniversary to my Mom and Dad! I love you both so much. Thank
you for showing me every day what a healthy, loving, committed marriage
looks like. "In sickness and in health" has taken on a whole new
meaning to you and it is inspiring to see your love for one another
continue to grow through this difficult time. I love you both more than
you know. ♥
My parents were pretty darn cute expressing their love for one another as well.
Here's what my Dad posted on Facebook:
Only God knows what the future holds, but what a blessing to have loved so well and shared so much together in this life. I love you both so much.
On another note, our little family of four hopped up the road about a mile to this beautiful lake yesterday to enjoy a late afternoon dip:
I certainly wasn't planning on actually going in...I thought it was going to be freezing and we would just let the kids play, but it turned out to be beautiful! The water was refreshing, clear and not a bit too cold. We had a blast and continue to be so thankful for this gorgeous place where we get to raise our family.
This is our town's drinking water! Hi little fishies!
Let summer begin!!!

Fun in the Sun!
We had such a wonderful day today (Saturday) - although we're all feeling tired and a little crisp after being out in the hot sun for most of the day! We celebrated our friend, Bria's, 2nd birthday and had a blast running around Proctor's Spring Fling! This is the last weekend before finals begin and it's always a great way to end to the school year.
Here's Micah at Bria's party...we forgot our swim suits, but it didn't stop my boys from getting wet!
Micah wanted to participate in everything the big kids were doing.
Love him!
These two were spoiled with all the free food! Micah tried his first snow cone. Both boys' snow cones ended up on the ground...and they didn't even freak out too much!
We headed home for nap time and to take a break from the hot sun. After a good long nap, we met my parents and brought my Dad for a walk around Proctor. He enjoyed sitting in the shade watching his grandsons (and son-in-law) try and catch frogs in the pond.
Frog!
Scott caught a huge frog and Camden was a little nervous (as was I...ugh. I hate frogs)!
After a while a bunch of Proctor kids joined in the fun!
Sarah loves our boys...and they love her!
Camden tried to help...
See my Mom and Dad heading back home?!?!
We are so thankful for this community that we live in. We love all our other faculty families and their kids, we love our students who are so good with our children and truly take an interest in them, and we love being near our own parents so much. Thankful for a fun-filled, sunny weekend and the rapidly approaching end of the school year!

So many little Proctor buddies!
Camden had so much fun going through the jumpy house obstacle course! He's such a big boy now and loves being independent!
Pretty excited!Micah wanted to participate in everything the big kids were doing.

A Very Special Homecoming
Eight weeks is a long time. It's a long time to be lying in a hospital
bed. It's a long time to be alone all night long with just uncertain
thoughts of the future to keep you company. It's a long time to be
poked and prodded and cared for by strangers who soon become friends,
but somehow they are friends you kind of wish you'd never met given the
circumstances. It's a long time for a spouse to go home to an empty
house every night after being by your side for long days. It's a long
time for daughters to miss and worry and wonder about their Daddy. It's
a long time for grandkids who say, "See Bepa?" every time their Mom
leaves the house, even if it's just to go for a run. Eight weeks is a long
time.
I know there are families that experience this reality for much more than eight weeks. I know it's possible that we might find ourselves there again sometime in the future. But for now, in this very moment, we are all just so thankful that those eight weeks are over. Right now, I'm so thankful that when I think about my Dad tonight, I am picturing him sitting in his recliner in his own house with my Mom close by...listening to the same claps of thunder that are shaking my walls and seeing the same lightning light up the same sky. I think I can finally allow the image of him lying in his hospital bed at rehab, watching a TV that doesn't even have ESPN and chatting with the occasional nurse that pops in to slowly fade from my mind.
My Dad came home last night. After two weeks of pain and fear at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center that included an embolism, a major surgery to repair his collapsed spine and remove the tumor that caused it, acute paralysis from his waist down (I will never forget the moment his surgeon discovered this paralysis as I was in the room alone with him) leading to a rushed emergency surgery followed by six weeks of grueling physical and occupational therapy at HealthSouth...My Dad is finally home!
My mom and I spent Tuesday afternoon with him packing up his room, watching his final therapy session and saying goodbyes to his therapists and nurses (all of whom were really sad to see my Dad go). The anticipation was palpable. We all breathed a big sigh of relief as we pulled into their little driveway in the village.
This journey is not over. A long road is ahead as my Dad battles this disease that is plaguing his body, while continuing to try and gain strength and mobility as he recovers from this spinal cord injury. The incredible support of family, friends and the greater community has given us hope. The kind words, the prayers, the financial contributions, the fundraisers and the amazing generosity of local businesses and carpenters and neighbors...God has been so faithful and I know He will continue to be.

Saying goodbye to his occupational therapist...these two spent a lot of time together!
Final meeting with our case manager - she was great!
Dad spent almost two hours a day with his physical therapist. He is a former marine and worked my Dad hard, but they had such a great relationship and I think I might have seen a tear in his eye when he said goodbye to my Dad.
Mom learning to flush the pic line - she's a nurse now!
